Download Winamp Version 5.05 Download Winamp 3 Version 3 build 499c Download Winamp Version 2.95 All Freeware From things I've read and my own personal experience I'd say that Winamp 5 is too heavy on resources, hogs your memory and is slow to load. You need a really powerful machine to run it, which shouldn't really need to be the case. Winamp 3 is is not much different, just as good, but is again buggy and slow but not as bad. Surprise surprise though... Winamp 2.95 is excellent. The playlist editor isn't as good as the others, and I can't find an option for fading from track to track and it doesn't have all the whizz pops like burning to disk and all that bollocks that you won't need if u just want to listen to music; and by the way, if you do want to listen to music.....which is what Winamp is for....then this version in my opinion (and lots of other people too) has the best sound quality. |

Download Spybot Search & Destroy ~ Freeware I've had this program running on my machine for so long now that I take for granted how good it is. It basically stops nasties getting onto your system, such as expensive diallers, malicious spyware, hijackers, malware, trojans, trackers etc,. etc,. and those dreaded porn site pop-ups too. It has an "immunise" thing, and comes with many options for general security and history removal stuff. This program is not just highly recommended, it is a Must Have. After downloading and installing this program, check for updates then run a scan on your system. Spybot S&D is a very powerful tool, be careful how you use it. It does however have an "idiot mode" too if you are not too technically minded or can't be bothered messing about. Anything in a red box with a tick is a nasty and can be got rid of. If you fuck up, there is a roll back thingy, but I've never had any need to, this program just works excellent. tip: make sure you regularly update this as there are new nasties coming out all the time. |
Download Spyware Blaster ~ Freeware I don't have so much to say about Spyware Blaster, but that's probably because you can't actually see it doing anything and it doesn't have loads of options for a techie like me to mess about with. I will say however that this program does a kind of immunisation thing that protects you from active-x annoyances like pop-ups and other stuff. Ran alongside Spybot S&D these two neat little programs make your surfing experience all the more pleasant and comfortably re-assuring.. the last thing you want is a phone bill for a call to Singapore, (unless you are lucky enough to live in Singapore that is). |

Download Sygate Personal Firewall ~ Free for Personal use Fully fledged personal firewall, and it's free. In it's out of the box format it provides excellent protection, and has many options to tweak away to your hearts content, highly recommended must have software. |
Microsoft add to trusted sites thingy adds a "add to trusted sites" in your internet explorer toolbar, which lets you allow certain websites you trust to run things java, flash and cookies etc. |

Download Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus ~ Free for Personal use Detects 100% of known viruses on recent tests. This is free for personal use, download, install, update, and this will be active whenever you start up your PC.. It has a nifty Outlook Express plugin for your e-mails; I've been getting sent that mydoom virus about 10 times a day in the past month and am still not infected. This is another great download that you can't do without. They require your e-mail address to send you the product key, but they do not bombard you with spam so that's not a problem. Get it, you need it. |

YTunnel Pro ~ for Yahoo Messenger ~ $17.00 If you use Yahoo Messenger you will love this, it does allsorts of useful stuff. Enables you to go straight to chat rooms without having to load internet explorer, blocks "bots" in chat rooms, makes all the text that people SHOUT in the rooms the same size, provides protection from booters, gives you more control over PM's and even provide's an auto-reply thingy for PM's too. Will block PM's with ASL in them, removes all adverts, automatically re-tries entry to full rooms, has an excellent "Iggy Bin", and proides more control over webcam settings and loads of other stuff. Yahoo is terribly annoying without Y!Tunnel Pro running, if you go on chat, you need this bit of software, it is excellent. |
Geocaching ~ looking for a new hobby!! This is one of my hobbies, Geochaching. Basically, people hide a cache somewhere and publish it's location on the free website, you read the clue, note the location, and trundle off with the wife and kids treasure hunting. It helps if you have a handheld GPS, but you don't need one, I did it for a long time before getting one. There will be things inside each cache like pens, keyrings, toys, tools, whatever people leave really. If u see something you like you take it, and replace it with your own trinket. You sign the cache log, and when you get home you register your visit and put up your comments and photos if you took any. Go to the website now and put your postcode in the search box thing, it will provide details of all the caches in your area to a radius you specify. Geocaches are all over the world, there's bound to be some near you. You can also purchase "travel bugs" which have a unique number.. the idea here is that if you find one, you take it away with you, then put it in another cache somewhere else. If you have purchased a travel bug you can then follow it through it's travels around the world. Geocaching is a really fun excuse to get out and about with the family. |
